CLINICAL PILATES
PERSONALISED MOVEMENT, REHABILITATION AND STRENGTH
I have been practising Pilates since my late teens, after many years of classical ballet, and have been teaching Pilates since 2014. I completed comprehensive Polestar Pilates training at Certificate IV and Diploma level, including mat and studio-based Pilates using the full range of Pilates equipment.
I also have an extensive background in yoga, which I have practised and taught for many years. My training across Pilates, yoga, movement, breathwork and meditation has given me a broad understanding of movement, mobility, body awareness and the relationship between movement, breathing and the nervous system.
Today, I bring this movement background together with my clinical experience as an osteopath to offer a highly personalised approach to Clinical Pilates.
Sessions are private or in small groups, with your program developed around your individual history, current capacity and goals rather than a standard class sequence.

BRIDGING THE GAP BETWEEN TREATMENT AND EXERCISE
One of the main reasons I offer Clinical Pilates is to bridge the gap between hands-on osteopathic treatment and independent exercise.
There can be a considerable space between needing treatment and feeling ready to walk into a large Pilates class, gym or other exercise environment.
You may be recovering from an injury, managing persistent or recurring pain, rebuilding strength after surgery or a period of inactivity, or simply wanting more individual guidance with your movement.
Clinical Pilates allows you to start where you are and progress from there, with a level of individual attention that isn't possible in a large group class.
For some people, sessions begin gently, with a focus on restoring movement and confidence. For others, Pilates can become a challenging strength and conditioning session. Your program evolves as you do.
MORE THAN JUST THE REFORMER
While the Reformer is probably the best-known piece of Pilates equipment, it is only one part of the Pilates system.
Depending on your needs, we may use the Reformer, Trapeze Table (Cadillac), Pilates Chair, Ladder Barrel and Spine Corrector, together with mat exercises, resistance bands, weights, balls and other equipment.
One of the great advantages of Pilates equipment is its versatility. Springs can provide either assistance or resistance, allowing an exercise to be made more accessible when needed or progressively more challenging as your strength, control and confidence develop.
This gives us an enormous range of movement options and allows the exercise to be adapted to you, rather than expecting your body to fit a predetermined program.

WHO IS CLINICAL PILATES FOR?
Clinical Pilates can be adapted to suit a wide range of people and stages of life. It may be particularly helpful if you:
-
are recovering from an injury, surgery or period of reduced activity
-
experience persistent or recurring musculoskeletal pain
-
want to improve strength, mobility, balance or confidence in movement
-
have multiple injuries or health considerations that make a general exercise class difficult
-
are transitioning from osteopathic treatment into more active rehabilitation
-
want to return to the gym, sport or other activities
-
are new to Pilates and would like individual guidance
-
already practise Pilates but want a more personalised approach
-
simply prefer private or small-group exercise rather than a large class.
Your program can range from gentle rehabilitation through to challenging strength, mobility and conditioning work, depending on your needs and goals.
PRIVATE AND SMALL GROUP PILATES
I deliberately offer Clinical Pilates privately or in small groups so that sessions remain genuinely individualised.
This isn't a large Reformer class where everyone performs the same sequence at the same time. Different people within the same session may be working on completely different programs, according to their own needs and goals.
Small groups allow me to supervise your movement closely, adapt exercises when needed and progressively challenge you as your capacity changes — while still providing the enjoyment and motivation of exercising alongside others.
Ultimately, my aim is to help you become stronger, more confident and more capable in your body — whether that means recovering from an injury, returning to activities you enjoy, transitioning into a larger class or gym, or simply continuing Pilates as an enjoyable and sustainable way to move.

CLINICAL PILATES + OSTEOPATHY
For clients who may benefit from hands-on care alongside their exercise program, Clinical Pilates can also be combined with osteopathic treatment.
This can be particularly useful when recovering from injury, managing pain or restricted movement, or when you need some additional clinical support while building strength, mobility and confidence.
Because I provide both services, your assessment, treatment and exercise program can be considered together as part of one coordinated approach. What I observe during Pilates can help inform your osteopathic care, while findings from assessment and treatment can help guide and adapt your exercise program.
The balance can also change over time — moving from more hands-on care initially towards greater emphasis on movement, strength and independent exercise as your capacity and confidence improve.
