PILATES

My pilates journey began in my late teens. After doing classical ballet from the age of 3 through to my late teens, I found pilates to be both a therapeutic and enjoyable form of movement.

I decided to deepen my pilates knowledge through the Polestar Pilates method, which I have been teaching since 2014. Initially this was Mat Pilates, and now also includes Clinical/ Rehabilitation Pilates using the pilates equipment – reformer, trapeze table, chair, ladder barrel and spine corrector. My teachers have included Polestar Educators Dav Cohen, Kimberley Garlick, Jeremy Hunt and Sarah Barrett.

Each session is fully personalised to each person’s individual goals and needs. My sequences take into account all my osteopathic, pilates and yoga knowledge to help clients achieve their very best movement patterns and health.

YOGA

Yoga is one of my great passions. My first teacher was Trevor Tangye, who introduced me to the teachings of T.K.V Desikachar and to Ashtanga Yoga as taught by K. Pattabhi Jois, with whom he studied directly. Trevor also studied with B.K.S. Iyengar and Shandor Remete (Shadow Yoga) and wove some of their teachings into my training.

I then found Yoga Synergy, developed by Simon Borg-Olivier and Bianca Machliss, both physiotherapists. The Yoga Synergy sequences have been intelligently created with modifications to suit all levels of practitioner from absolute beginner to advanced yogi. I found this style most helpful personally while I was working in the corporate world. It was at this time that I also met one of my most inspiring Pranayama teachers, Clive Sheridan.

I have since also studied with Yogrishi Vishvketu, founder of Akhanda Yoga in Rishikesh, India. These teachings have included traditional hatha yoga and classical kundalini tantric yoga. This has given me a deep understanding of the subtle energy systems of the body, chakras, kriyas, mantra and meditation.

Recently, I undertook further studies in Meditation and Breathwork with the Yogic Meditation Institute. This included Yoga Nidra, Antar Mouna, Kaya Sthariyum, Ajapa Japa and various Pranayama techniques. I believe these techniques are enormously helpful in our current world circumstances.

I have also been initiated in the Vedic Meditation tradition with Matt Ringrose at Bondi Meditation Centre. I have a regular daily practice which helps me enormously with life!

Other studies have included Restorative Yoga with Mark O’Brien from Qi Yoga; Advanced Vinyasa Yoga with Power Living; and Kids and Families Yoga with Rainbow Kids Yoga.

I absolutely love teaching yoga and have been teaching in Byron Bay and Sydney since 2009. I enjoy creating sequences that suit the specific needs of the student, drawing upon all the knowledge I have gained.
